“Baking with a Purpose” Sustainable Journey

The Best Free From’s journey to Carbon Neutral

In today’s world, where environmental consciousness is paramount, companies are stepping up to make a positive impact to more sustainable practice’s. “The Best Free From” (TBFF) is one such Baking and health food company that has not only mastered the art of creating delicious treats but has also made it our mission to be environmentally responsible. This Blog  explores how “The Best Free From” has achieved a carbon-neutral footprint to  become a shining example of sustainability in the baking and healthfood industry for Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs)

The Power of the Sun: Solar Panels for Sustainable Energy

Energy is as vital to every SME in Ireland today as ever! Whether it’s keeping the lights on, chilling produce, or heating and cooking. At the heart of “The Best Free From’s” commitment to sustainability are our solar panels. These panels harness the power of the sun to generate clean and renewable electricity for our entire baking operation. By reducing our reliance on conventional power sources, we have significantly cut our carbon emissions, making our footprint lighter and more eco-friendly. Modern improvements in the construction and installation allied with ‘Smart Usage’ ( using ‘off-peak and Night Saver ‘ supply hours as options), clever time management, and the methods outlined below have made TBFF a ‘carbon neutral and highly sustainable modern business model.

Carbon Neutrality through Apple Trees and Wild Fauna

nature

To go beyond just reducing emissions, “The Best Free From” takes a unique approach to carbon neutrality. We have transformed our baking facility’s surroundings into a thriving ecosystem by planting apple trees and fostering wild and domestic fauna.

The trees act as a carbon battery, absorbing and storing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Our apple trees absorb carbon dioxide during photosynthesis and store it in the trunks, branches, and fruit. This sustainable practice not only helps in offsetting emissions but also contributes to local biodiversity and promotes a healthier planet. And will also be providing a delicious future source of organic traceable produce for our bakery! Whatever is not used by the animals is composted and used for future growing projects to further add to biodiversity and make TBFF even more eco-friendly.

Zero Waste: Organic Waste Feeds Farm Animals

Another integral aspect of “The Best Free From’s” sustainability journey is our zero-waste policy! All compostable waste generated during the baking process is meticulously collected and used to feed our farm animals. This practice not only reduces landfill waste but also ensures that every resource is used efficiently and the animals have a source of traceable and wholesome nutrition which leads to healthier and happier animals. It also creates a fantastic compost for our organic homegrown veg.

Recycling and Reusing Packaging Materials

In addition to minimizing waste within our production process, “The Best Free From” is committed to recycling and reusing packaging materials wherever possible. Cardboard boxes and other packaging materials are collected, cleaned, and repurposed. This reduces the demand for new resources and minimizes our environmental impact. We are constantly monitoring the industry to keep up with new trends and practices. A seminar in Dublin in autumn should lead to more sustainable knowledge being shared with Irish SMEs and industry leaders. Our latest measure to ‘Stay Zero Carbon’.

Our latest innovative and ‘Green’ measure is to only buy and use 100% biodegradable cleaning and disinfectant products for use in all areas of The Best Free From production. The use of biodegradable cleaning products in our bakery has become an increasingly important and sustainable practice. These eco-friendly cleaning solutions offer numerous benefits that align perfectly with the values and needs of TBFF..  These products break down into harmless components, minimizing water pollution and reducing the impact on local ecosystems. Additionally, biodegradable cleaners are typically safer for both our employees and customers, as they often contain fewer harmful chemicals and irritants. Choosing biodegradable cleaning products are not only contributing to a greener planet but also setting a good example for responsible and sustainable business practices in our community.
